Zoom calls and virtual video chats have been the new norm for the past year. With the ongoing pandemic, a lot of events and parties have gone online. Sure you may still have guests over (up to a maximum of 8, of course), but the more the merrier, right? So if you plan on hosting an online baby shower, we got you covered with some tips!

Setting the time and “venue”
It is important to always keep in mind that you will need to accommodate the guests, so pick a time that works well for them. One suggested timing would be to make the virtual baby shower on a weekend, and during the afternoon where more people are free.Â
Next, you will need to choose the âlocationâ for your baby shower. There are a few choices like Zoom, Google Hangouts, or Skype. All these are great, but we find that Zoom works best (especially since we can have cute and customizable backgrounds). However, the only downside would be the 40-minute cap on the free version, so if youâd like your baby shower to last longer, there are a few subscription options available.Â
Pick a theme for your virtual baby shower
Next, you will need to figure out a specific theme, and there are a lot to choose from! The list goes on, from various colour schemes to the different kinds of animals, the possibilities are endless. Get your guests to dress up according to your theme and see what they can come up with!
Fill up the guest list and send out your invites!
Now, since you would not have to worry about having a maximum number of guests with it being online and all, feel free to invite as many friends and family as you like! Make a cute invite (you can use Canva and use the free templates available), or simply send out a mass email/text, and get them to RSVP quickly, so you can set up the Zoom call and have everything ready in advance.
Plan the itinerary
Now, if you are using Zoom, keep in mind that you only have 40 minutes, so ensure that you can fit everything in the time frame. Set your objectives of the baby shower and make sure you keep to it, so no time is wasted. You may hand out a rough timeline to your guests, so they would know what to expect.
Prepare for the activities planned
If you are planning on having games, ensure that you have all the materials you need before. Some games you can plan are âHow well do you know the parentsâ, âGuess the Price (for baby items)â and âSkribbl.ioâ. You can even create a Kahoot game and include different quiz games to make it more fun!Â
Parting Gift
Before your baby shower ends, you don’t want the guests to leave empty-handed! You can prepare a small gift, either a simple e-thank you card (which can be made easily on Canva) or get pre-made goodie bags to be delivered to your guests.
