Everybody has seen those baby gender reveal boxes where either pink or blue balloons get released. You have probably also seen the cake-cutting videos, where blue or pink frosting on the inside reveals the gender of the baby. All these are pretty common at gender reveal parties. As such, we embarked on a quest to find more interesting and fun ways in which you could reveal the baby’s gender! Here are 10 special things you could do at your gender reveal party~

1. Balloon Popping

We surprised our friends and family with a gender reveal and…it’s a boy!!! 🧢🎉 Can’t wait to meet the little guy

A post shared by Ned Fulmer (@nedfulmer) on

Instead of just getting balloons that drop down, get a bigger balloon filled with either pink or blue-coloured confetti! Make sure the guests have their cameras and phones ready to capture the fun moment! Be it a suspenseful video or a short boomerang, this would make a lovely Instagram moment. You can watch Ned Fulmer from the Try Guys and his wife, Ariel, popping the balloon at their very own baby shower. (refer to video above)

Moreover, if you already have a child, the older sibling can help to pop the balloon! Sometimes, the older child might feel a bit jealous over the attention the baby gets. So giving them an important role for the gender reveal party would make them feel proud and happy to have a younger sibling!

2. Colour Changing Bath Bomb

This is one of the most exciting ways for a baby gender reveal! Bath bombs take a while to dissolve and makes the suspenseful moments last a little longer! You can watch the video above to see how it works.

Another reason this is a great idea is because you could easily make the bath bomb by yourself! It would be a more meaningful and fun thing to do rather than just ordering from a store~ This video from Soap Queen TV can help you!

3. Coloured Confetti Cannons

What is a party without involving the partygoers! Get everybody in on the action (instead of just being photographers) by handing out gender reveal confetti cannons. The couple can do the countdown, and all the guests can release the party poppers at once to find out!

Best for parties held in a big space, so don’t take this option if you are holding the party at home… And if your party is outdoors, do make sure to clean up the mess after~

4. “It’s A Boy” / “It’s A Girl” Message Teddy Bears

Sometimes, simplicity is the way to go. If you are not throwing a party, or are thinking of a nice photograph to post on social media for those who couldn’t attend, this is for you. These adorable Message Teddy Bears from Gund are straightforward. Simply take a picture of the mummy holding the teddy bear! If there is an older child, you could also get the “I’m The Big Sister” or “I’m The Big Brother” teddy bears for a nice little photoshoot.

These teddy bears also make for cute props at the baby shower photobooth, and adorable table decor. In fact, you can keep it for the baby to hug and play with when they are born! It’ll be a nice gender reveal idea that can last~

5. Paint Guns

For the outdoor parties, paint guns will definitely be the most fun! All the guests will get to join in on the fun of revealing the baby’s gender by spraying paint at the new parents. This would literally be putting the ‘shower’ in baby shower! 😆

The parents can wear white-coloured clothing, so that the paint-stained clothing can become a nice memento! In order for no paint to be wasted, you could do all of these by a white photowall, so that the end product can also be the backdrop for guests to take pictures with! Now you get to save some money on decorations too 😉

The only downside is the mess that would be made… Please make sure the venue is suitable and that the paint can be cleaned up easily before you fire the paint guns!

6. Her(she)y’s or Hers(he)y’s?

We found this creative idea on Pinterest! All you have to do is get a bunch of Hershey’s chocolate bars at the supermarket, and colour or pour glitter over the “she” or the “he” of the chocolate bar. Then, wrap up the chocolate bars so that everybody can open the packaging at the same time for the final reveal. Check out this article for more detailed steps.

Isn’t this such a sweet idea? After all, everybody loves chocolate! Everybody gets to enjoy their own chocolate bar, so it doubles up as your party favours on top of the gender reveal game!

7. Baby Name Voting

When the guests arrive, stop them while they are signing the guestbook and ask them to guess – is it a boy or a girl? However, instead of just ticking the gender, why not get them to do something even more fun! Suggest a name for the baby as well~

When the time to reveal the gender comes, the parents can do so by reading out the potential names of the correct gender of the baby! Who knows, they could get inspired by one of the ideas written down too 😆

8. Trivia Game

A participatory and fun activity would be a trivia game. The other activities which include the guests lasts only for a short moment. After the balloon pops, or the confetti falls, the suspense is over. Instead, this little game would take a longer time, and keep the guests on the edge of their seats!

How it works is that when a correct answer is given, the parents pick up either a bow or a bowtie (or anything to differentiate boy and girl). When the final question answered, the gender with more items will be the right one! As such, do ensure there are an odd number of questions.

Daddy and mummy can have fun coming up with the trivia question topics! It could be about themselves, random baby facts, or anything of their interest. And to make it more fun for the guests, you could throw in some prizes to give out for those who guess correctly too.

9. Cupcakes

Everybody has seen the big gender reveal cake. We propose gender reveal CUPcakes instead! This is so all the guests can join in on the action. Making sure that every guest receives a cupcake, they can take a bite of their own and check the filling inside: is it pink or blue?

This is a nice idea which involves the guests, but does not make as much of a mess as party poppers and paint guns. You can also serve this as dessert, putting a nice end to the gender reveal party.

10. 2 Of Everything!

What happens when you are holding a Baby Twins Gender Reveal Party? You need 2 of the activities, for baby 1 and baby 2. That means twice the amount of fun!

Perhaps daddy and mummy could pop one balloon each. If all the confetti are pink, then both are girls. If one is blue and the other is pink, then the answer is obvious!

Another idea is to have a 2-layered cake. Thus, cutting the cake at once will reveal both genders of the twins at the same time as well.

We conclude our baby gender reveal ideas here. We hope that this has inspired you, whether you are planning your own party or for your loved one!
